Imagine a city where books are freely accessible, where the joy of reading is not confined to bookstores or libraries but is woven into the very fabric of public spaces. InnerWheel Club of Amritsar Rising Sun has taken a step in this direction with the Small Free Libraries Project, an initiative that fosters a culture of reading and sharing.
The "Take a Book, Leave a Book" Concept

The idea behind Small Free Libraries is simple yet powerful: "Take a Book, Leave a Book." These libraries are not just about borrowing books but about sharing stories, knowledge, and inspiration. There are no membership fees, no due dates—just an open invitation to pick up a book and, leave one behind for someone else.
2000+ Books Gifted by the Community

In a heartwarming collaboration with Red FM, led by Mandy and RJ Megha , played a crucial role in rallying book lovers to donate. Thanks to their efforts, over 2,000 books were collected, ensuring a diverse and rich collection for readers of all ages. These books are being placed in beautifully designed Book ATMs, each holding 20 books at a time, across different locations in the city.
A Collaborative Effort

This initiative would have been possible with the collaboration between four key partners: InnerWheel Club of Amritsar Rising Sun, Timeless Amritsar, Cafe Delhi Heights and the Over Breakfast Book Club.
While the InnerWheel Club brought the vision and leadership, Cafe Delhi Heights provided the platform to amplify this cause within the community.
The Over Breakfast Book Club added its special touch by organizing reading sessions and events around the library, encouraging people to explore new books and authors. Together, they created a vibrant ecosystem that celebrates the joy of reading.
A special mention goes to Jasmine, Manik, President Anupama and her entire team. Their passion for literature and community service ensured that this library became a welcoming space for book lovers.
Additionally, Rouble Tuli , an author, avid reader and founder Over Breakfast Book Club played an instrumental role in championing this initiative, strengthening the reading culture in the city.

Heartfelt thanks to Pranav and Simran , a beautiful couple from Café Delhi Heights, Amritsar who provided a vibrant and cozy home for this new literary hub.

Empowering Women and the Community
What makes this initiative particularly remarkable is the role played by the women of InnerWheel Club of Amritsar Rising Sun. By taking the lead on such an important project, they have not only contributed to the city's cultural landscape but have also set an example for others to follow. Their work goes beyond just promoting reading—they are building a culture of giving, learning, and shared experiences. It’s an initiative that empowers everyone, particularly young women, to pursue their passions and make a difference.
These Small Free Libraries are more than just bookshelves in public spaces; they are symbols of literary habits of us Amritsaris. They encourage casual readers to pick up a book, inspire children to develop reading habits, and provide access to literature for those who might not have easy access otherwise.
A Win Win for Everyone: Place a Book ATM at Your Establishment
As the idea of building Small Free Libraries across Amritsar continues to grow, the hope is that it will inspire other communities to create similar spaces for knowledge sharing. The women of InnerWheel Club of Amritsar Rising Sun have already laid the groundwork, but their work is just beginning. With plans for more collaborations and initiatives, any one can join this program.
Anyone who owns or manage a café, salon, office, or any other public space and would like to be collaborated with Amritsar's famous instagram page Timeless Amritsar’s with over 42,000+ followers, Join Small Free Library program and host a Book ATM. As a reward, Timeless Amritsar shall promote your business without any charges for full one year.
Credits to the Visionary Behind the Idea
This wonderful initiative was conceptualized by Preety Kour, a young author who envisioned a city where books would be accessible to all, fostering a strong community of readers. Her idea inspired from a US based non profit Little Free Libraries has now taken shape, spreading the love of books across Amritsar.
So the next time you’re in Cafe Delhi Heights, take a moment to browse the Small Free Library. You might just discover your next favorite book, and along the way, become part of a growing community that believes in the power of books to change lives.
Let’s build a more literate, connected, and book-loving Amritsar together!
